3 ways to mix up your Summer Salads to extend your tan, Fight Tiredness and Cleanse your Liver.

Summer is almost here guys and we all want to make sure that we’re looking and feeling our best.  Not only is our daily exercise important, but also what you fuel your body with, is 100% important too.  SO how do you extend your tan, fight away that tiredness and also cleanse your liver, i hear you ask?

Well its simple.  Just changing a couple of key ingredients to your salads will allow your body to do just this.

Firstly, lets look at a simple high protein salad.

Fine Tuna Salad

Main Ingredients:

  • 450g fresh tuna steak (2 cans of tuna)
  • 2 handfuls of green beans
  • 2 eggs
  • salt and pepper

Method:

Dice the tuna, then sear for 20 secs on all sides.  Boil the green beans and eggs, removing the beans after 7minutes and the egg after 9mins.  Rinse the egg, peel and quarter.  Place all this – plus the ingredients from your chosen recipe (below) into a bowl, season and dress.

Tan Extender:

Ingredients:

  • 6 asparagus tips
  • Handful shelled broad bean
  • 1tbsp sliced onion
  • 3tbsp tinned butter beans

Dressing:

  • 1tbsp avocado oil
  • 1/4 clove crushed garlic
  • Salt/ pepper
  • 1tbsp lime juice

Method:

Prepare your dressing. Heat the broad beans in boiling water 2mins. Steam the asparagus 5-7mins, while heating the butter beans in the microwave.

WHY?

Holding your tan requires moisture inside and out. Onions, garlic and butter beans are all rich in sulphur, an essential mineral for your skin’s connective tissues.  Rutin in asparagus helps prevent and repair skin damage.

Tired Fighter:

Ingredients:

  • 3 leaves red cabbage
  • 1 stick celery
  • 1 small head broccoli
  • 45g quinoa
  • Handful rocket
  • Bunch watercress

Dressing:

  • 4 tbsp celery juice
  • Pinch celery salt
  • White pepper
  • 1 tbsp olice oil
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar

Method:

Prepare your dressing. Cook the quinoa in boiling water for 15mins. Allow to cool. Finely slice the celery and cabbage, then grate broccoli.

WHY?

Eating potassium-rich celery, cabbage, watercress and rocket will fight against this.

Liver Cleanser:

Ingredients:

  • 5 sliced new potatoes
  • 15g fennel
  • 2 spring onions
  • 1 large, cooked beetroot
  • 1 head red/ yellow chicory

Dressing:

  • 1/2 clove garlic
  • 1tbsp fennel seeds
  • 1 1/2 tbsp cider vinegar
  • 1tbsp olive oil
  • Salt & pepper

Method:

Prepare your dressing.  Simmer potatoes in water with a pinch of salt for 15mins, rinse then slice thinly. Finely slice the onions and dice beetroot.

WHY?

The combination of antioxidant rich beetroot, aniseed-flavoured fennel, spring onion and sulphur-rich garlic, together with a dressing of apple cider vinegar and fennel seeds is a powerful detox cocktail for your liver.
